Funding

Local and national fundraising efforts are underway by the University of Louisville and Jewish Hospital for the Cardiovascular Innovation Institute (CII). This funding is analogous to the funds that venture capital firms provide to other start-up organizations.

The tentative goal for the fundraising effort is between $20 million and $30 million.  This will be used to pay expenses until the institute can become self-supporting and build an endowment to fund future operations.

To date, funds include a $15 million investment from Jewish Hospital, a $5 million grant from Kosair Charities, $6.8 million from the Kentucky Department of Commercialization and Innovation, $1.5 from the Gheens Foundation and earmarks in the amount of $12.2 million secured by Sen. Mitch McConnell.
